Mateus is an Intern at IDMC’s Policy and Research Department. He joined to support the Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID) and his reposibilities include background research on economic, social and political contexts and policies. He is also part of the urban displacement research support team.
Prior to IDMC, he worked with national security and political instability at the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies. He also worked with climate change impacts on the macroeconomy and financial systems at the New Economics Foundation. Next to that he was part of the Bretton Woods Project that researches and networks in the domain of World Bank and IMF lending impact, safeguards and governance. Moreover, he has done substantial research on green funding, monetary/fiscal policies for climate change mitigation, international economic cooperation, economic drivers of political instability, growth theory and income distribution.
Mateus holds a MSc in Law, Economics and Management with a major in Economic Policy Analysis from Sorbonne-Paris-Cité. He also holds a MSc in Political Economy, Macroeconomics and Finance from Kingston University London. He has a double Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Economic Sciences from Faculdades de Campinas (FACAMP).
He speaks fluently English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. He has a working knowledge of Dutch.
