The estimate is based on a national IDP database which is maintained by the Ministry for Community and Return. The database is updated with the support of UNHCR and other partners, and is in turn based on assistance provided to displaced families. The slight decrease in the number of displaced reported in 2017 corresponds to people who have returned home and are in process of reaching durable solutions, therefore added to the Provisional Solutions category. The displacement was caused by wars which followed the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia.
