Sri Lanka: Profile of Internal Displacement

By the end of 2003, more than 345,000 people, out of a total internally displaced population of 730,000, had returned home since a ceasefire ended two decades of civil war in early 2002. While the government and Tamil rebels are committed to creating conditions for large-scale returns, the internally displaced are not adequately protected and assisted.
