New prospects for a lasting peace in Sudan after two decades of civil war have been overshadowed by the continuing crisis in Darfur. Sudan has been home to the world's worst displacement crisis. An estimated six million of its citizens have been forced from their homes, as a result of over 20 years of fighting between government troops and allied militias on the one hand and various insurgent groups on the other.
