Leaving no one behind: internal displacement and the New Urban Agenda

As UN member states commit to the New Urban Agenda for the next 20 years, this paper sets out the specific challenges facing people internally displaced to and within urban areas and related recommendations to ensure they benefit from the implementation of the agenda and are not ‘left behind’.

Pushed Aside - Displaced for "Development" in India

This report documents and analyses the scale, process and impacts of displacement caused by development projects and business activities. IDMC shows through nine cases in India that IDPs suffer detrimental impacts and rarely recover. As the world embarks on implementing the post-2015 global development agendas, IDMC calls for people displaced by development projects and business activities to be priority beneficiaries of development work.

IDMC strategy: 2015 - 2020

NRC established IDMC in 1998 in response to a gap in the protection and assistance provided to internally displaced people, and a request from the IASC for comprehensive global data to inform efforts to address it. Today our mandate is as relevant as ever, but we also recognise that we have to evolve to better serve the needs of policy makers, governments, the humanitarian community and IDPs themselves.
