IDMC's Stakeholder Submission to the Universal Periodic Review of Afghanistan
IDMC’s submission to the Universal Periodic Review with recommendations to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on implementation of the national IDP policy and improvement of housing conditions for IDPs.
In June 2013, IDMC submitted a stakeholder report to the Universal Periodic Review outlining key human rights challenges faced by IDPs such as; right to non-discrimination and adequate standard of living, right to work, right to adequate housing and prohibition of forced evictions, right to food and water, and women’s rights. Recommendations were made to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan which called for the immediate adoption and implementation of the national IDP policy, emphasizing return, resettlement and local integration as a means of achieving durable solutions and highlighted the need to improve housing conditions for IDPs.
