Bangladesh: Tens of thousands remain internally displaced and unassisted
Large numbers of people have been internally displaced in Bangladesh due to conflict and religious persecution. In the south-eastern Chittagong Hill Tracts, tribal requests for autonomy in 1971 sparked off a 25-year armed conflict which displaced tens of thousands of people (estimates range between 60,000 and 500,000).
