Profile of Internal Displacement: Democratic Republic of the Congo (March 2002)

Despite the cease-fire between the primary armed groups in DR Congo (DRC) since January 2001, fighting is still ongoing in the North and North-East of the country where most of the 2.2 million internally displaced persons are located (as of February 2002). The humanitarian situation remains desperate, and due to insecurity and lack of funding, the international response is far from sufficient to cover the needs of the displaced.
