This year’s conference brought together humanitarian and development practitioners, policymakers and donors to explore new insights and successful approaches in the prevention of and solutions to disaster displacement. This report presents the disaster displacement trends in the region during 2010−2021 and provides insights into its social and economic impacts. The report also discusses the opportunities ahead, by highlighting the progress made across the region in preventing and responding to disaster displacement. It aims to serve as a basis to raise awareness of this phenomenon, encourage further investments in risk reduction and durable solutions, and guide policy toward this end.

The island nation of Vanuatu has the highest disaster risk worldwide from natural hazards ranging from cyclones to volcanoes. Human activities, including rapid urbanisation, increase people vulnerability to displacement. Vanuatu's efforts to prevent and respond to the issue, however, are an example of good practise.
