Workshop on durable solutions in Zamboanga
IDMC, in collaboration with the Philippines Human Rights Commission, organised and facilitated a workshop on durable solutions in Zamboanga, where armed clashes took place in September 2013 displacing several thousands of people. The training activities, which were preceded by a forum for local, national and international stakeholders, included discussions around the potential challenges to achieving durable solutions. Preventing return to places of origin by implementing no-return areas or disqualifying potential returnees from access to assistance may result in a failure to respect minimum internationally accepted standards.
The recommendations issued by the participants at the end of the workshop can inform the durable solutions strategy of the UN Country Team and help in ensuring that adequate guarantees are provided to people who continue to live in displacement.
